Welcome to Murphy, NC

Murphy is a thriving town located in Southwestern North Carolina and it is the county seat of Cherokee County. Founded in the 1830's, Murphy was the original site of Fort Butler, built by United States Army during the Cherokee removal known as the Trail of Tears, which served as the main collection point for Cherokee east of the mountains. Downtown Murphy is full of historic buildings filled with popular restaurants, art galleries, retail and coffee shops, but don't let this bustling mountain town fool you-it's still got all the charm of a small town.
